Fox News Confirms Ongoing Federal Investigation at ATL Airport Gunman

Fox News confirmed Tuesday that an unknown amount of gunfire left an adult male killed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport over the weekend.

An Atlanta-area NBC affiliate identified the deceased as Ronald Jackson, and Fox 5 Atlanta confirmed he was an off-duty aviation security officer working at the airport for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances behind the shooting.

The incident prompted a ground stop at the busy airport Monday afternoon. Authorities said an officer accidentally discharged his weapon at 3:45 p.m. local time.

“Thankfully we do not have a body cam story,” the FBI’s Shawn Jenkins said on Fox & Friends. “And we’ve heard no threats made to the TSA officers or TSA at all.”

Jenkins said the shooter was exiting the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint, “and just happened to shoot.”

Georgia police said the shooter was found dead inside a restroom.
