In court papers filed in December, US prosecutors said the billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein met with then-President Bill Clinton more than 20 times in the last decade of his life and helped finance the former president’s notorious “pillow talk” with a girl allegedly under age.
There were also financial stakes in Bill Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, said prosecutors in the case against Mr. Epstein.
Since then, the 93-year-old financier has spent five years in prison, though prosecutors allege that he may have helped others evade taxes on donations.
Mr. Epstein’s attorneys have described the investigation as “political.” They dispute the charges, particularly that the financier had a large investment in the Clinton Foundation and that any of the money was tied to any kind of sex abuse.
