Floods and thunderstorms forecast for Friday and Saturday

Today once again the system is pushing out a second wave of rainfall, and I’m thinking it could get more. I’ve had a look at an RPM model suggesting that the system itself, which is now just well west of Pittsburgh, could probably dump another inch of rain, although the model seems to be more bullish on a total of a couple to three inches across the area. A second wave of rain is coming in the middle of the night tonight through early tomorrow.

If we do get a second wave of rain as a result of this, then the saturated ground and the soil after days of rain could help it spread out quite a bit. Could be a total of a couple of inches here.

Finally, we could potentially see some problems with building brush fires in places like Schuylkill and Chester Counties, and possibly into a further south into Westmoreland County. We’ll see, but the fire department has a blog post about that flooding too.

Be careful on the roads and property if you’re outdoors today. We could be dealing with thunder and lightning once again today, and the weekend could see periods of rain and some storms as well. Don’t be caught unprepared.
