Friday, April 20, 22 Newspapers Call On Lawmakers To Support Noncitizen Voting in Local Elections
The New York Times, La Opinión, and other newspapers in New York call on lawmakers to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections.
In a letter to the New York State Legislature, The New York Times says we must make room for less partisan groups, by allowing aliens to register and cast their ballots in elections. We can do it, they say, if the special interests don’t get their way.
Our Editorial Board agrees. We support the New York Post and those who share their view that these matters should be left to local government. As national legislators debate the vast right-to-work and other issues affecting working families in New York, we have a quandary.
